McShane to Build Affordable Senior Housing Community Near Atlanta

McShane Construction Company’s Southeast regional team was selected by repeat client National Church Residences to build Crossing Pointe, an 80-unit affordable senior living community in Union City, Georgia.

“We’re honored to partner with National Church Residences on another affordable senior residence,” commented Dave Meadows, Vice President & Regional Manager at McShane. “In 2021, we delivered True Light Haven in Atlanta, and we’re excited to build on our success there with Crossing Pointe.”

Designed by Foley Design, the four-story wood frame building will be positioned on a 4.5-acre site at 7422 Red Oak Road. The building’s façade will integrate a mix of brick veneer and siding.

Each unit features one bedroom and one bathroom, solid surface countertops and black appliances in the kitchen, zero threshold showers, and luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout. Amenities include a community room with a warming kitchen, laundry room, mail room, computer center, and fitness room.

Designed to achieve National Green Building Standard Bronze Certification, the property incorporates sustainable materials and features including Energy Star dishwashers and washing machines, water-efficient bath accessories, and composite cabinetry.

Completion of Crossing Pointe is expected for December 2025.

2024 ABC Illinois Excellence in Construction Award

The Woodlands at Canterfield received an Award of Excellence from ABC Illinois. The development is a 129-unit luxury senior living community that offers 91 assisted living units and 40 memory care beds in West Dundee, Illinois. Units are offered in studio, one-, and two-bedroom options and offer high-end finishes including vinyl plank flooring, maple cabinets, and granite countertops. The property integrates 16,000 square feet of best-in-class amenities including a fitness center, spa, salon, theater, pub, clubrooms with fireplaces, and dynamic dining venues. Outside, residents can enjoy a patio with a fire pit, bocce ball court, and putting green.

Located on a site that was once occupied by an apple orchard, The Woodlands at Canterfield exudes a woodland aesthetic. Biophilic principles guided the design with careful consideration of natural daylighting, finish selections, and art curation, all of which contribute to a bright, contemporary atmosphere. Notable features include gilded leaf wallcoverings in the property’s signature restaurant, a wood panel surround bar in the pub, faux green walls and planters in the fitness center and dining areas, and botanical fabrics and wallcoverings in the full-service salon.

McShane Completes The Derby Apartments in Madison

Construction is completed at The Derby in Madison, Wisconsin. McShane Construction Company provided design-assist construction services on behalf of repeat client Lincoln Avenue Communities. The affordable housing community integrates 70 apartments and 1,100 square feet of ground-floor office space for a local community group.

Units are offered with one to three bedrooms and boast stainless steel kitchen appliances, shaker-style cabinets, granite countertops, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and in-unit washers and dryers. First-floor units offer private patios, and units on floors two through four have private balconies. Fourteen of the units meet Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) accessibility requirements.

The building boasts 2,600 square feet of amenity space including a common area with a full kitchen, a fitness room, a shared laundry room, outdoor gathering space, a kids’ play place and playground, and a dog park. The first-floor office suite incorporates three private offices, a conference room, community service facility, classroom, and a reception and work area.

Designed by Knothe & Bruce Architects, the building features four stories of wood frame construction atop an underground precast parking garage. The exterior façade combines composite lap and panel siding with brick veneer.

The project is Enterprise Green Communities Certified and integrates Energy Star rated appliances and a full solar array system on the roof to power the common areas.

2024 Influencers in Multi-Family

Scott Hoppa, Executive Vice President of Operations, was named to GlobeSt.’s list of Influencers in Multi-Family. Scott first joined McShane in 1991 as an intern while studying at Marquette University. Over the past 33 years, he has proven himself a strong leader and influencer within the industry and at McShane. Scott is an expert in a variety of multi-family product types including market rate, affordable, senior, and student housing. He has overseen the construction of more than 70 multi-family projects in 14 states totaling 16,600 units and $2.3 billion in value.

In 2005, Scott was tasked with opening a Southeast regional office in Auburn, Alabama, to position McShane to serve the highly populated and growing Sun Belt region. Since opening, Scott has expanded the office to 60 employees with revenue in excess of $285 million. As a result of Scott’s leadership, McShane is now one of the most active multi-family general contractors in the southeastern United States.

McShane to Build 309-unit Apartment Complex Near Downtown Madison

McShane Construction Company was selected by Vermilion Development to build Lock Lane Apartments, a 309-unit multi-family community in Madison, Wisconsin.

“We are proud to partner with Vermilion on this exciting project,” commented Alison Gorham, Vice President at McShane. “Located next to a large public park, river boat launch, and Lake Mendota with easy access to downtown Madison, Lock Lane Apartments will offer a great balance between outdoor connection and modern, downtown living.”

Located on an 8.5-acre site adjacent to Tenney Park, the development will integrate two five-story podium-style buildings with a total of 289 units and three two-story townhome buildings with 20 units. The podium buildings will feature four levels of wood framing atop a two-level precast parking garage. The buildings’ facades will incorporate an attractive mix of lap siding and brick.

Residents will enjoy balconies, quartz countertops, in-unit washer/dryers, and spacious closets. Many units will offer lake, park, or river views.

Amenities will include large green roof amenity areas on the podium buildings, fitness centers, 5th floor club rooms and common balconies, co-working office spaces, conference rooms, and heated vehicle and bike parking. Additionally, the site will offer a fenced dog run, community gardens, and access to both the lake and riverfront.

The project was designed in compliance with several Focus on Energy initiatives.

Tom Beres, Regional Vice President – Industrial, was named to GlobeSt.com’s list of Influencers in Industrial. Tom joined McShane in May 2003 as a Project Engineer following his graduation from Marquette University. Since then, he has proven himself an influencer both within McShane and throughout the industry. Tom has extensive experience in multiple industrial product types, including distribution/warehouse, food and beverage, and manufacturing/assembly, in geographic markets across the country. Over the course of his career, he has managed the construction of nearly 70 industrial buildings in 12 states.

Tom is known for his tactical approach to addressing the challenges of a project. Whether he’s facing supply chain issues, poor site conditions, or tough weather, he finds strategic ways to ensure that construction can progress without incurring overall schedule delays and added costs. Additionally, he has a strong ability to collaborate with clients, design teams, trade partners, and municipalities. As an advocate for the design-build method, he has formed key partnerships with architects and engineers in the industrial sector. With more than 20 years of experience, Tom is able to impart his advanced knowledge in industrial construction on his employees as he trains the next generation of industry leaders.

McShane Completes Affordable Senior Apartments in Doraville, Georgia

Construction is completed at Veranda at Assembly, a 100-unit affordable senior living community in Doraville, Georgia, for adults 55 and older. McShane Construction Company built the residence on behalf of repeat client The Integral Group.

“Veranda at Assembly offers modern apartments for seniors in a convenient location off Interstate 285 and Peachtree Boulevard,” commented Brian Wood, Vice President SE Operations at McShane. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with The Integral Group again and are confident that this building will serve the Doraville community well.”

Located on the northeast side of Atlanta, the development includes a four-story wood frame building with a masonry and siding exterior designed by architecture firm Dynamik Design.

The Integral Group selected SK Collaborative as a consultant to finalize plans and review associated materials and installation to obtain Energy Star and EarthCraft Certifications.

McShane Completes OSLO Apartments in Fairburn, Georgia

McShane Construction Company is pleased to announce the completion of OSLO, a 288-unit multi-family complex in Fairburn, Georgia. Selected by repeat client South City Partners, McShane built five garden-style apartment buildings featuring 4,000 square feet of retail space and 7,000 square feet of amenity space.

“It’s an honor to deliver OSLO, a beautifully designed garden-style community located southwest of Atlanta,” commented Brandon Yates, Vice President at McShane. “We’re proud to accommodate the rising multi-family need in Fairburn with this astounding development.”

OSLO is composed of five three- and four-story wood-framed buildings with stone and fiber cement siding. Units are offered in one-, two-, and three-bedroom open-concept layouts to fit the lifestyle of each resident.

Apartment features include shaker-style cabinets with granite countertops and French-door refrigerators in the kitchens and tile tub/shower surrounds in the bathrooms. Each unit integrates vinyl plank flooring in the common areas and carpeted bedrooms.

With more than 7,000 square feet of amenity space, residents can enjoy a heated saltwater pool, fitness center, clubroom, pickleball courts, dog park, pet spa, and walking trail.

The development also offers proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and convenient access to I-85.
