Scott J. Hoppa, Senior Vice President of McShane Construction Company’s Southeast Region, is pleased to announce the recent construction award of Sam’s Crossing, a new mixed-use development of South City Partners. The project will completely revamp an underutilized 3.18-acre site within the downtown district of Avondale Estates, a neighboring city seven miles east of Atlanta, into a vibrant urban development with upscale living, retail, and open green space.
Located at 2700 East College Avenue, the five-story property will feature concrete podium-style construction topped by a wood frame residential component clad with fiber cement siding and masonry. The contemporary residence will partially wrap around a five-story attached precast parking garage accommodating 268 vehicles.
The 197-unit complex will incorporate 131 one- and 66 two-bedroom apartments outfitted with high-end finishes and appliances together with in-unit washers and dryers and private outdoor balconies. A total of 8,300 square feet of ground-floor retail space will also be included.
Sam’s Crossing will boast numerous well-appointed amenities such as a club room, state-of-the-art fitness center and on-site leasing and management office. A central exterior courtyard will feature the property’s luxurious resort-style swimming pool accompanied by seating areas and lush landscaping.
As part of the assignment, McShane will enhance over an acre of green space located adjacent to the development. The firm will preserve mature trees and complete walking paths and gathering areas for residents and community members to enjoy. McShane will also complete the associated sitework for the project including landscaping and paved surface parking for retail customers.
“McShane Construction is committed to delivering exceptional service on behalf of our highly respected repeat client and the Avondale Estates community. We will utilize our proven experience and expertise to complete this high-quality mixed-use development that will serve as an economic catalyst for this growing city,” Hoppa stated.
McShane broke ground on Sam’s Crossing in late January with final completion scheduled for third quarter 2018. The firm is simultaneously constructing The Oakley Apartments, a second assignment for South City Partners. The 308-unit luxury rental complex is underway in Fairburn, Georgia, 20 miles from downtown Atlanta, and will be delivered this summer.
Architectural services for Sam’s Crossing are being provided by The Preston Partnership.
