McShane Completes 60-unit Affordable Housing Residence in Madison

Construction is completed at The Canyons, a 60-unit affordable housing residence in Madison, Wisconsin. McShane Construction Company completed the new community on behalf of repeat client Lincoln Avenue Communities.

“We are proud to deliver The Canyons, a well-crafted community that brings much-needed affordable housing to Madison,” shared Alison Gorham, Vice President & Director of Wisconsin Operations at McShane. “Our continued partnership with Lincoln Avenue Communities reflects our shared commitment to creating quality living environments that serve residents and strengthen neighborhoods.”

Designed by Knothe & Bruce Architects, the podium-style building features four stories of wood frame construction atop an underground concrete parking garage. Its exterior showcases a modern blend of Hardie fiber-cement siding and masonry brick veneer.

Each unit offers thoughtfully designed interiors featuring luxury vinyl-tile and carpet flooring, granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances, kitchen islands, and private patios or balconies. Residents can choose from one- to three-bedroom floor plans, and select units offer a private ground floor or one-story walk-up entrance.

Residents also benefit from 3,750 square feet of community amenities, including a fitness center, laundry room, community room with a kitchenette, indoor bike parking, courtyard with grills, and a playground.

The Canyons was designed with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency to meet Wisconsin Green Built Homes Gold Certification and EnergyStar Multifamily Certification standards. A rooftop solar panel system helps offset electricity costs for the building’s common areas and the units integrate EnergyStar Rated appliances and furnace and air conditioning units.

McShane is also partnering with Lincoln Avenue Communities on the construction of Bishops Woods, a 203-unit affordable housing residence in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
