Hairpin Lofts and Logan Community Arts Center
McShane Construction Company provided the comprehensive construction services on behalf of Brinshore Development for the redevelopment of the mixed-use, 50,560-square-foot Hairpin Lofts and Logan Community Arts Center located at 2800 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.
Originally constructed in 1930, the six-story structure has been reconstructed to feature 28 one- and two-bedroom affordable and market rate apartments, 9,000 square feet of retail space and a 7,000-square-foot community center. The historical preservation and renovation assignment incorporated solar panel-supplied hot water, geothermal heating and cooling, recycled construction materials, Energy Star rated appliances, a green roof and greenhouse gas filtering photocatalytic cement patio pavers. The project achieved LEED-Gold certification.
McShane reconstructed the existing limestone facade, restored the vintage lobby and installed elements emulating the original building materials to meet the historical preservation standards.
