Digi Key Electronics’ Product Distribution Center expansion earned the Industrial/Manufacturing/Science Project of the Year Award and the People’s Choice Award at the Minnesota Real Estate Journal Awards.
Digi-Key Electronics is a worldwide distributer of electronic components headquartered in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. The firm contracted McShane to add a 2.2 million-square-foot, four-level product distribution center to their existing 800,000-square-foot corporate headquarters office and distribution center. Large enough to fit 22 football fields, the facility incorporates 17,000 tons of steel, 1,860 pieces of precast concrete, 20 miles of conveyors and a 70′ clear height.
McShane worked to overcome a variety of challenges during the construction of this massive project, including a harsh climate, rural location, lack of a strong local subcontractor base and tough specifications. In the end, the team delivered a world-class facility that stands as a mark of innovation, ingenuity and boldness.
